WHAT IS MANGROVE CNP SURVEY ?
What is up?
- A deadly infection is threatening our mangroves ecosystem
- Treatment exists but requires precise, informed application
- More sample data is crucial for scientists to take action
- Your photo can make a significant difference in stopping CNP
- Taking a leaf photo is quick and easy but can have a huge impact
- Become a Citizen Scientist, and help protect our mangroves
- Together we can save our mangroves ecosystems from extinction
What is Mangrove CNP Survey?
The Coastal Nematode Pathogen (CNP) survey is a critical initiative aimed at understanding and combating the spread of this lethal infection in mangrove ecosystems. By participating in the survey, you help collect vital data that informs our treatment strategies and enables effective intervention. The process involves taking 3 simple photos of affected tree leaf, which our scientists then analyze to track the disease’s progression and impact. Your contribution is not only valuable for scientific research but also crucial for preserving the health and biodiversity of mangroves.
What is being done about it?
Jorge Pereira and Melissa Deinys at the University of Central Florida are spearheading innovative research to combat the devastating spread of CNP among mangroves. Their work focuses on understanding the disease’s transmission and developing effective treatments. By analyzing environmental conditions and pathogen behaviors, they aim to create precise strategies to halt CNP’s advance. This research not only seeks to preserve these vital ecosystems but also to provide critical insights that can be applied globally. Their dedication and expertise are pivotal in the fight to save mangroves from this lethal infection. You can read more about their work and the ongoing efforts here.
3 SIMPLE STEP SURVEY
1
Download the app
Download and open the app. Approach the mangrove tree you plan to survey and click ➕ to add new observation.
2
Snap three clear pictures
Take front and back pictures of the leaf. Ensure the leaf fills the frame, and is well-lit for clear visibility of anomalies. Than take a step back and take a picture of a branch this leaf is on.
3
Describe your observations
Select observed anomalies from the list or add your own notes and hit SUBMIT.
